- How do you feel you did in completing the actions agreed at the last supervision?
- Were there any barriers that made it difficult to achieve them?
- What support would help you move things forward?
Notes: Laura is happy with the progress she is making and continues to develop within her new role. Laura is happy she has had oversight of the homes recording systems since stepping into her role and being shown the detail required within these systems.
3. Children's Care & Safeguarding
Questions:
- Are there any young people you are particularly concerned about at the moment?
- What positive progress have you noticed in the children you're working with?
- How confident do you feel about identifying and responding to safeguarding issues?
Notes: We have discussed concerns about HF engagement as this does not seem to be improving despite efforts from the team, Laura informs me that HF is often avoiding speaking with her or having discussions with her, resulting in Laura writing her a letter to establish some common ground to communicate. Concerns remain that family are putting money in her bank and this is impacting on her adhering to boundaries in the home. We have a care planning meeting arranged for today to discuss these concerns and asked HF mother to also attend. We hope that by asking mum to attend these meetings we will continue to encourage her to work alongside us. Laura has raised with me that M and L have been bickering when passing through the home and this has been challenged by staff mainly when passing on the landing due to how long L takes in the bathroom. Laura plans on sitting them both down together to address the bickering and insulting each other in passing throughout the home. ZP has had her phone back and this is being monitored closely by staff and Laura to ensure she is managing this safely. She has requested further ad hoc checks to be completed today, being mindful it is Noahs' birthday and could be a trigger for her to partake in risk taking behaviors. I agree this is sensible to be vigilant about for staff working with her. L continues to do well at home and staff are reporting his engagement with others is improving in terms of demonstrating he is having more consideration for others which is nice to hear. Callum has had an escalation of incidents which has caused LD some concern. Laura has asked me to refresh some staff on the PPR and I have agree to do this in the team meeting for end of February.
4. Performance & Practice
Questions:
- What do you feel you're doing well in your role right now?
- Where do you think you could develop your practice?
- How do you ensure your records and reports are accurate and child-focused?
-How do you ensure you have an oversight of the children's needs being met in the home.
Notes: Laura continues to develop in her role, and I have feedback to her that she is doing really well in her new role. Laura shows passion for the role and is eager to succeed with her responsibilities. Laura has completed some additional training to support her and she has now completed these. Laura and I have also been completing some direct work around recruitment and induction, and managerial oversight and organization in the home. Courteny is thriving with this support and likes to be shown things firsthand to then understand and implement these standards of care as a registered manager. I have reassured Courteny that we will continue to support her with some direct coaching to support her to settle in her role. Laura is looking forward to bringing Jake on board full-time to support her in her role at the end of the month. We commented on how we feel he would be a good asset to support in the home and for the wider staff team.
5. Staff Team Working & Dynamics
Questions:
- How do you feel the staff team are working together at the moment?
- Are there any challenges in team communication or cooperation?
- What do you think the team does really well?
- Are there any conflicts or tensions that I should be aware of?
- How do you think team morale is overall?.5
- Is there anything we could do to improve teamwork in the home?
Notes: Laura has informed me that Rachel has contacted her informing her that she is having difficulty with her son at home and this is impacting her ability to work long shifts. Rachel is upset about this situation but is a single mother and her son needs her at home at the moment. Laura has agreed for Rachel to drop down to bank due to her family circumstances and our external recruitment will continue. Laura informs me Craig's operation has gone well and he seems to be recovering well. He has felt a lot of love and support form the team since going off work which is nice to hear. Laura is currently completing the rota for March and due to Craig and Rachel not on this has led to some gaps. We are proceeding with Kelly and Karl's recruitment and will hopefully support their induction into the home soon, we aim to have Kelly on the rota for March time, she has previous experience working with looked after children and has completed a number of mandatory courses recently. Laura has raised some concern around Rachel's time management as a team leader completing supervisions she is allocated to complete. She plans on having supervision with Rachel next week to explore if she needs further support and guidance on such tasks. I have asked Laura to keep me updated on how this goes.
6. Training & Professional Development
Questions:
- How effective has recent training been in supporting your role?
- Are there areas where you'd like more training or learning opportunities?
- What are your professional goals for the next few months?
Notes: Laura completed her online training courses allocated to her following last months supervision. I have spend the past few weeks supporting Laura with review and monitoring systems in the home and how this is implemented. Laura thrives from direct coaching on a 1-1 and she continues to develop well. I have informed her that I have explored some further training for her in leadership and management and just awaiting for availability on this.
7. Health, Safety & Compliance
Questions:
- Have you noticed any health and safety concerns in the home?
- How confident do you feel in applying policies and procedures?
- Is there anything you think could be improved to make the environment safer?
Are you happy with the décor of the home and children's bedrooms.
Notes: No concerns around health and safety in the home everything seems to be getting checked regularly and is in date in terms of compliance. HF flooring is due to be put down in her bedroom in early March, and has now got her new blinds up in her bedroom. We discussed replacing the sofa's in the living room and this has been agreed and should be replaced within the next few weeks.
8. Wellbeing & Support
Questions:
- How are you feeling about your workload at the moment?
- What parts of the job do you find most challenging or stressful?
What parts of the job to find most rewarding?
- What helps you manage the emotional impact in your role?
- How can I, as your manager, support you better?
Notes: Laura has no concerns to raise around work life balance today. She informs me that she is enjoying her new role and responsibilities and has felt fully supported since stepping into the role. Laura is growing in confidence and is pleased knowing Jake has been identified as the new deputy due to step up at the end of this month to support her in her role.
